Cake artist Francesca Pitcher sculpted an entirely edible Albino Burmese Python cake for her daughter’s birthday party. When she brought the cake out, the guests weren’t sure whether it was a real snake or not!

Welcome to Kim Saulter’s kitchen – that is, her miniature dollhouse kitchen.
Ms. Saulter is a sculptor, working with polymer clay to create very tiny works of art in a 1:12 scale. She handcrafts anything and everything that one could wish for in a well stocked baking kitchen: Kitchen utensils and appliances, baked goods, produce and pantry items, miniature cookbooks, and even the stove, kitchenaid mixer, and refrigerator.

A young man named Leon turned 21 years old and for his birthday party, his father built a detailed replica of Hogwart’s Great Hall using mostly styrofoam, cardboard, recycled wood and paint. These unbelievably simple and inexpensive creations are documented step by step on his website for all to learn:

The Harry Potter Potions Light Box was made from a simple box holding a flourescent light bulb. The recycled bottles were filled with water and food coloring.

The Floating Candles and the Enchanted Ceiling were made from thrifted queen size bed sheets, toilet paper rolls, and inexpensive flickering electronic lights.

The wands were made from sticks found at the park and varnish. The wand cases were made from styrofoam and a bit of velvet.

The books for the library were made from foam and paint.

The Great Hall Banquet Table was made extra long with a simple construction of recycled wood.

The Nimbus 2000 was made of wood, palm tree fronds, glue, and a bit of aluminum.

The Hour Glass was made with 2 liter plastic bottles, styrofoam, aluminum rods, sand, and gold paint.

The Owl Lecturn was made of foam, wood, a cardboard roll and gold paint.

The Monster Book Of Monsters was made of foam, a cardboard roll, fur fabric and gold puffy paint.

The trees in this scene are made of singed bottle brushes painted black. The stars are spatters of phosphorous ink and the moon and atmosphere is a black and white image projected onto black muslin.

This ocean scene, titled “DIY Paradise” is made out of cotton, salt, cooked sugar, tin foil, feathers & canvas.

This image is “Aurora Borealis”, made by photographing a beam of colored light against a black curtain to achieve the edge effect. The trees were composited from life and the stars are simply strobe light through holes in cork board.

This Diorama with a Willow Tree is made using painted parchment paper, thread, hand dyed ostrich feathers, carved chocolate, wire, raffia, masking tape, coffee, synthetic potting moss and cotton.

It took two months to store up enough fireplace ash to create this lunar landscape. The darker rocks are made of mixed tile grout, flag crumpled paper & wire. The Earth is a video still projected onto the wall. Inspired by the Apollo 11 mission.

This volcano is made out of tile grout, cotton, phosphorous ink. The volcano was illuminated from within by 6-60 watt light bulbs.
