Captain Brian Bews was demonstrating Canada’s CF-18 fighter jet during an 2010 airshow when the aircraft exploded into a fireball. Mr. Bews was practicing low altitude maneuvers when he realized the jet was unresponsive. He told NBC: “It was about two seconds of me trying to fight the jet…something went terribly wrong,” he said. “I knew where the jet was going and didn’t want to go with it so I pulled the ejection handle…my training kicked in, I knew I had to do it.”
And if that’s not enough, there’s a video.
